Do Clothes Make The Woman? - Baltimoresun.com

GLFashion.com Announces Introduction of Brand New Spring/Summer Women Clothing

I have often said that at work I am a character in a play and must wear the right costume for what is happening in the scene. If I'm dressed in character when I enter the stage, the audience will immediately understand my role. As a risk manager, authoritative and serious are usually better choices for me than whimsical. But sometimes appropriate dress takes other forms. Several times a year Legg Mason has dress-down days tied to our corporate citizenship efforts. Our Women's Leadership Network sponsors a jeans and high school/college alma mater shirt day, encouraging employees to donate to two Baltimore educational organizations. We also enthusiastically celebrate Purple Fridays. Many women at Legg Mason are avid football fans, and we love to support the home team by proudly wearing our Ravens jerseys.

Celebs turn to stylists, designers to craft courtroom couture Sales of men's pants rose 12% to $4.8 billion, and socks grew by 14% to $2.8 billion. The only one of the 13 categories tracked by the market-research group NPD in men's apparel to see dollar sales decline was men's tops, with a 2% decrease. "Innovation and men's perception of fashion contributed to an increase in spending in 2013," said Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst for NPD. Another notable reason for the rise included colder than usual weather conditions, which helped the sales of men's outerwear grow 12%. Most channels benefitted from total men's apparel sales in 2013. Strong sock and pants sales helped drive an increase at specialty stores, while outerwear sales trended upward at department stores and mass merchants. Department stores, off-price retailers, warehouse clubs and mass merchants all saw a 6% rise in dollar sales of men's clothing in 2013. Likely beneficiaries of the uptick in men's clothing sales were department-store operators such as Macy's ( M ) and Nordstrom ( JWN ), and discounters such as Target ( TGT ), Wal-Mart Stores ( WMT ) and Costco Wholesale ( COST ). Website purchases, which represented 14% of men's apparel sales, saw some of the highest growth for the year, increasing 19% over 2012. Meanwhile, the average price of an in-store purchase grew 3% for men's apparel, while online prices declined 7%.
